# The 5 Best Coffee Shops in St. Pete (and Which One to Pick)

Five cafes worth planning a day around, what to order at each, and how to pair them so you are not driving across town between cups.

*The 5 Best Coffee Shops in St. Pete (and Which One to Pick)*

These are the five coffee shops in St. Petersburg we would send a friend to first. They are not interchangeable, so here is what each one is for.

## Bad Mother, for working or reading

Bad Mother is on the first floor of the Station House downtown. The room is dark and posh without trying too hard, with sofas, plenty of seats and quiet music. The staff know the beans and like to talk about them. Order the flat white, and ask which roaster is on. They also run pour overs and private tastings.

## Daycation, for a cortado with the owner behind the bar

Daycation is a tiny shop on MLK Street that looks like nothing from outside. Order the cortado on the house blend, then the Ode to My 90s: black sesame cream, crunchy dates and a double espresso. The owner and her staff explain how to drink each specialty drink. It closes mid-afternoon, so go early.

## Hogg Batch, for the cup you will not get anywhere else

Hogg Batch is a working roastery that ages its beans in spirit barrels. The menu is pour overs and cold brew, and the barrel-aged cold brew carries a faint note of rum. Its hours are short afternoons from Wednesday to Sunday, so check Instagram before you go.

## Coffee Concrete, for the room

Coffee Concrete sits inside a concrete design studio in the Warehouse Arts District, with art on the walls, a backyard patio and a car on display. It is loud and funky, and the latte is really good anyway. It opens at 7:00.

## Bandit, for breakfast and a drink to follow

Bandit is a spacious, minimalist cafe-bar on Central Avenue that opens at 7:00 and shuts at 3:00. There is a queue even on weekdays. Order the scrambled egg sandwich, which is moist and delicious, and the shaken latte if you want it cold. It also pours wine, cocktails and beer, and there is no wifi, so this is a place for a meal and people watching, not a laptop session.

A dark, posh coffee bar inside the Station House, with a balanced, chocolate-and-berry flat white and staff who will talk about the beans.

- [Daycation Coffee](https://thesteep.app/cities/st-petersburg/daycation-coffee-st-petersburg) Steep Pick Downtown St. Petersburg · St. Petersburg · Steep Index 8.8/10

A tiny owner-run shop just north of Central Avenue that looks like nothing from the street, where the owner and staff talk you through how to drink the house specialties.

- [Hogg Batch Coffee Roastery](https://thesteep.app/cities/st-petersburg/hogg-batch-coffee-roastery-st-petersburg) Steep Pick Downtown St. Petersburg · St. Petersburg · Steep Index 8.7/10

A working roastery on Central Avenue that ages its beans in spirit barrels, pours only pour overs and cold brew, and does it better than anyone else in a city built on syrup lattes.

- [Coffee Concrete](https://thesteep.app/cities/st-petersburg/coffee-concrete-st-petersburg) Steep Pick Downtown St. Petersburg · St. Petersburg · Steep Index 8.7/10

A big, funky coffee bar inside a concrete design studio in the Warehouse Arts District, with a backyard patio and a latte worth the trip.

- [Bandit Coffee Co.](https://thesteep.app/cities/st-petersburg/bandit-coffee-co-st-petersburg) Steep Pick Downtown St. Petersburg · St. Petersburg · Steep Index 8.4/10

A spacious, minimalist Central Avenue cafe that opens at 7am for espresso and a full breakfast menu, then pours wine, cocktails and beer.

## Do it in a day

The five split into two groups. Bad Mother and Daycation are about a fourteen minute walk apart, so start there in the morning. Then drive west for lunchtime. Coffee Concrete, Bandit and Hogg Batch are all within about twenty minutes on foot, in that order. Coffee Concrete opens at 7:00, Bandit shuts at 3:00, and Hogg Batch only opens in the afternoon from Wednesday to Sunday, so it goes last. Skip Monday and Tuesday, when Hogg Batch is closed.
