Kungsholmen by Morning

Stockholm · 2–3 hours · morning

Stockholm's two best specialty cafes are seven minutes apart on the same island. Start with Komet's cardamom buns and precision filter; finish with Volca's Latin American single origins and the Basque cheesecake nobody tells you about until it arrives.

The route

  • 1. Komet Café
    Kungsholmen

A long bakery counter running the length of Kungsholmsgatan, with everything on it made that morning. Start with the filter coffee and a cardamom bun, which together have become the quiet gold standard on this block. The room is warm and unhurried in a way Stockholm does well; staff will almost certainly remember what you ordered the next time you come in.

7 min walk to the next stop

  • 2. Volca Coffee Roasters
    Kungsholmen

Seven minutes along Hantverkargatan and the room changes completely. Volca is a compact Latin American micro-roaster where the owner works the counter and hands you a card with the farmer's name, altitude, and origin when you order. Brazilian and Colombian single origins, rich and smooth. Order the Basque cheesecake alongside whatever you are drinking; it is one of the better-kept secrets in Kungsholmen.
