The Space
Brooklyn Roasting Company occupies the ground floor of the Hauser Kitahama Building, a historic structure on the Tosabori River in Osaka's old financial district. The setting is genuinely good, with water views and enough architectural character to justify the address.
The Coffee
The coffee does not match the brand's reputation. The extraction was flat, with no particular care in the cup — the kind of result that suggests the machine is doing the work while nobody is paying attention. Brooklyn Roasting Company has earned its following. This is not the location to judge them by.
The river view is doing a lot of work here.
The Vibe
The staff are unfriendly in a way that goes past indifferent and into something more deliberate. Service felt rushed throughout, as if clearing the table mattered more than what was happening at it. The riverside room deserves better than this.
The Verdict
Kitahama is a beautiful part of Osaka and the building is worth seeing. The coffee gives you no reason to come back, and the service gives you an active reason to go somewhere else. There are better cups within walking distance of this river.
