Five cafes reviewed in Naha so far. The best of them is reached by climbing a staircase most visitors walk right past, and it does not have wifi on purpose.
Kumoji is a five-minute walk from Naha's main tourist strip, close enough that most visitors could find it without trying and far enough that almost none of them do.
Up a narrow stone staircase, framed by plants that look like they have been there longer than the shop has, is TAKAHARA COFFEE ROASTERY. Four bar stools. A few tables. Bean vials set out to smell before you order. No wifi, and that is by design, not an oversight.
The best coffee we have found in Naha so far does not have wifi. That is on purpose.
The pick, if you only have time for one
TAKAHARA is the only Steep Pick among the five cafes we have reviewed in Naha, scoring 8.9. The espresso tonic and flat white both run on single-origin Ethiopian beans, aromatic and well brewed, served in locally crafted ceramics, the tonic poured into an actual wine glass. If you are choosing exactly one stop in Naha, this is it.
A pattern worth noticing
TAKAHARA is not an outlier by accident. Of the five cafes we have reviewed in Naha, four score 9.0 or higher on coffee alone, and every one of those four is small, tucked away, or roasting its own beans. TAMAGUSUKU COFFEE ROASTERS is a quirky alley cafe stacked with a hodgepodge of curious objects. rokkan COFFEE CREATORS is a handful of counter seats built for a solo sit, not a crowd. Neither is trying to be found by everyone, and the coffee in both is genuinely excellent.

The one that is easy to find
The exception is HUU'S COFFEE, a converted multi-floor building minutes from Kokusai Street with a rooftop, sofas, and a genuinely good brunch menu. It is also the easiest of the five to walk into, and the one place where the coffee itself came up short. Go for the food. Do not expect the same from the cup.
