CAFE ROSTRO
Tomigaya, Shibuya · Tokyo · Steep Index 8.7/10 · Steep Pick

A roastery-backed coffee bar on a pedestrian-only Tomigaya street, where the baristas would rather talk extraction than take your order, and the affogato arrives dusted with coffee grounds.
The Steep Index
Coffee Quality leads, comfortably, on the strength of an affogato that is properly built rather than assembled. Solo-Friendliness and Atmosphere follow close behind, helped by a counter made for watching the bar work. Staying Power dips a little on weekend crowds, and Value trails, priced for the neighbourhood it sits in.
- Coffee / Drink Quality: 9.0/10
- Atmosphere: 8.9/10
- Solo-Friendliness: 8.9/10
- Value: 8.2/10
- Staying Power: 8.5/10
- Overall: 8.7/10
Perfect for: espresso pilgrimage, people watching
The Space
CAFE ROSTRO sits on a pedestrian-only street in Tomigaya, easy to walk straight past if you are not already looking for it. Sixteen seats inside, a counter facing the bar, and terrace tables out front for when the weather cooperates.
The Coffee
The affogato is the order here, a dark roast espresso poured over soft serve and finished with a dusting of coffee grounds that stops it tipping fully into dessert. The selection behind the counter runs deep, and the baristas talk you through it properly instead of pointing at a board.
Dark roast espresso, soft serve, a dusting of grounds on top, and nothing else needed.
The Vibe
Stylish without working too hard at it, and genuinely cozy once you have a seat. Weekends fill the room, so a weekday morning is when it is at its best.
The Verdict
CAFE ROSTRO earns its Steep Pick on craft rather than on looks, though it has plenty of both. Sit at the counter, watch your cup get made, and let the barista choose.
