California-born chef Katy Cole opened this eight-seat Meguro natural wine bar and hand-threw every ceramic piece in it. Around sixty bottles, mostly Savoie and Rheinhessen, ten by the glass, in a room that looks like a Georgia O'Keeffe painting had good taste in wine.

The Space
Eight seats in a room that looks like it was designed by someone who makes the ceramics by hand because Katy Cole does exactly that. Dusty pink and mint tones, warm light, a green exterior on a quiet Meguro corner near the river. The space is small enough that every detail registers.
The Pour
Around sixty bottles curated with a clear point of view: natural wines from Savoie and Rheinhessen lead the list, with select bottles from other French regions, German producers, and Japan's emerging winemakers. About ten are available by the glass on any given evening. The seasonal organic small plates are worth ordering alongside.

The Vibe
Cole also runs Locale, a California-inspired restaurant on the same corner, and juni reads as the part of that project where the structure falls away and the wine does the talking. The room is intimate enough that you will likely end up in conversation, but it does not demand it.

Wine bar juni is one of the best small wine bars in Tokyo and a strong argument for what a natural wine bar can be when the person running it made the ceramics on the shelf. Go on a weekday evening and do not plan anything after.
