GLITCH COFFEE&ROASTERS — Tokyo

The Kanda Nishikicho roastery that has been doing Tokyo's most serious single-origin work since 2015. Small room, focused menu, zero distraction.

The Steep Index

Coffee earns a 9.0 because the single-origin programme is genuinely serious. COE-winning Colombian lots, light roast, rotating menu. Atmosphere is cozy rather than impressive. The room is small, which is part of what makes it work. Value reflects specialty pricing on sourced-with-care lots. Staying power is the honest number: the room is small and the seating is limited.

  • Coffee / Drink Quality: 9.0/10
  • Atmosphere: 8.3/10
  • Solo-Friendliness: 9.0/10
  • Value: 7.8/10
  • Staying Power: 8.0/10
  • Overall: 8.4/10

Perfect for: working alone, espresso pilgrimage, reading

The Space

The first floor of a Kanda Nishikicho building, small enough that you notice everyone in the room and cozy enough that it does not feel like a problem. The space communicates its priorities clearly: counter equipment, and very little else.

The Coffee

The menu rotates with whatever lots they are currently working with. Light roast single origins, sourced seriously. On a recent visit the Colombian options included a Cup of Excellence No.1 from Tolima. Order the pour-over and take your time with it.

Order, wait, receive. The pour-over takes the time it needs and arrives when it is ready. That is the whole agreement.

The Vibe

Regulars, designers, people with headphones in and no intention of leaving. The room has the particular quiet that comes from everyone tacitly agreeing to be present.

The Verdict

Glitch Jinbocho is not a place you pass through. You go there specifically, you stay for the cup, and you leave already thinking about what they will have next time. Go alone. It works better that way.
