Grünerløkka to Storgata

Oslo · Afternoon to evening · any

Two of the world's most respected specialty roasters share the same Grünerløkka block. Eighteen minutes south, HIMKOK does for Norwegian aquavit what Tim Wendelboe did for Scandinavian coffee.

The route

  • 1. Supreme Roastworks
    Grünerløkka

A corner room on Thorvald Meyers gate with the roastery visible through a glass panel behind the bar. Supreme is one of the more technically precise operations in Grünerløkka: filter coffee roasted in-house, a well-calibrated espresso bar, and enough natural light to make the first cup feel deliberate. Start here.

  • 2. Tim Wendelboe
    Grünerløkka

Three minutes up the block and you are at one of the most internationally significant addresses in specialty coffee. Tim Wendelboe won the World Barista Championship in 2004 and spent the next twenty years defining what Scandinavian filter coffee could taste like. The space is small and unpretentious for somewhere this consequential. Order the espresso first.

16 min walk to the next stop

  • 3. HIMKOK
    Storgata

Walk south through Grünerløkka and into Sentrum, arriving at Storgata 27. HIMKOK has appeared on the World's 50 Best Bars list for several years running, built on a drinks program that takes Norwegian distilling traditions and locally foraged ingredients seriously. The aquavit-based cocktails reward attention. Arrive before 6pm to get a seat without waiting.
