Cafes and bars in Song Wat, Bangkok
One of Bangkok's oldest trading streets, its riverside shophouses built for the rice and gold trade now hold a small, serious coffee cluster instead. Two century-old restorations sit directly on Song Wat Road itself; a Danish roaster from Aarhus, a few minutes further down Charoen Krung, rounds it out. None of the rooms are large, and none of them are easy to spot from the street, which is part of the point.

SCR sits inside a beautifully preserved old shophouse on Song Wat Road, the heart of what might be Bangkok's most interesting cafe district right now, heritage shophouses and converted warehouses, none of the Sukhumvit polish. The coffee backs up the setting. The bathroom situation does not.

KOFF & BUN occupies a beautifully restored shophouse on Song Wat Road, and the second floor's chill, considered decor is the best reason to come, ahead of the coffee menu itself, which tries to do a little too much.
