SCR - Song Wat Coffee Roasters
Song Wat, Chakkrawat · Bangkok · Steep Index 8.0/10

SCR sits inside a beautifully preserved old shophouse on Song Wat Road, the heart of what might be Bangkok's most interesting cafe district right now, heritage shophouses and converted warehouses, none of the Sukhumvit polish. The coffee backs up the setting. The bathroom situation does not.
The Steep Index
Coffee earns a 9.0. The latte carried strong, confident flavor, and the sausage croissant held its own too, this is a kitchen and bar that knows what it is doing. Atmosphere is the standout at 9.2, a rustic, beautifully preserved old building on historic Song Wat Road, right in the middle of Bangkok's most interesting emerging cafe corridor, heritage shophouses and converted warehouses with none of the Sukhumvit gloss. Value holds at 8.2, fair for the quality on offer. Solo is the low point at 6.6, this is not the room to settle into alone for long. Staying comes in at 7.0 for a real, specific reason: there is no restroom on site, you have to cross the street and use a public bathroom, shoes off, which makes lingering here, especially after coffee, genuinely inconvenient.

The Space
SCR occupies a beautifully preserved old shophouse on Song Wat Road, right in the middle of what might be Bangkok's most interesting cafe district at the moment, heritage buildings and converted warehouses with none of the polish of Sukhumvit. Rustic and genuinely cool, the kind of room that earns its atmosphere honestly.
The Coffee
The latte carries real, confident flavor, and the sausage croissant is quite good alongside it, order both. This is serious coffee inside a serious piece of old Bangkok, and the pairing works.
Great coffee, great building, and a bathroom situation that will send you across the street with your shoes off.
The Vibe
Rustic and cool, with the kind of heritage character that the rest of Song Wat Road is quickly becoming known for. It is not a great fit for solo time though, and there is no restroom on site, you have to cross the street and use a public bathroom with your shoes off, which makes staying any real length of time a genuine inconvenience.
The Verdict
SCR earns its reputation on coffee and building alone, strong espresso, a genuinely beautiful old shophouse, and a front-row seat to Bangkok's most interesting cafe corridor right now. Just plan your bathroom timing before you order, and know that this is a better quick stop than a long solo sit.
