Blacksheep Espresso
Daikanyama, Shibuya · Tokyo · Steep Index 8.0/10

A minimalist Schemata-designed cafe 76 metres from Daikanyama Station where Terraform Coffee meets a very good affogato and the neighbourhood's signature restraint.
The Steep Index
The atmosphere score reflects a precisely designed small room in Daikanyama, where Schemata Architects' involvement is visible in a way that earns its surroundings. The coffee score is driven by a genuinely good affogato and a beans programme from Shanghai roaster Terraform, whose single-origin sourcing gives the pour-overs something to say. Value is honest for Daikanyama pricing. Staying and solo scores reflect a compact, pleasant space that does not rush you but does not have room to hold you for long either.

Perfect for: slow weekend, impressing someone
The Space
A small, precisely designed room 76 metres from Daikanyama Station, where the restraint of Jo Nagasaka's Schemata Architects is visible in every decision. Compact without feeling cramped, minimalist without feeling cold. The kind of interior that makes Daikanyama's reputation for understated good taste feel justified rather than assumed.
The Coffee
The affogato is the order and it earns that status — espresso over ice cream with a confidence that suggests the menu was built around it. The coffee is supplied by Terraform, a Shanghai-based specialty roaster running Loring equipment with a serious approach to single-origin beans. The pour-overs are worth the time when the affogato has already been decided.
The affogato is the order. The room is the reason to drink it slowly.
The Vibe
Upscale and approachable in equal measure, with the particular calm that Daikanyama does well. Solo visitors are comfortable here with no expectations placed on their time. The tagline is "be blacksheep, be yourself" and the room earns that quietly, without making a performance of the idea.
The Verdict
One of the better small cafes to know in Daikanyama, and the affogato alone makes the visit worth timing correctly. Not a destination from across the city, but exactly the right place for the neighbourhood it sits in and the kind of afternoon that neighbourhood is built for.
