HANARE COFFEE STUDIO
Nezu · Tokyo · Steep Index 8.4/10

A small matcha-forward cafe a few minutes from Nezu Shrine, sister shop to Miyano-yu, where the custard pudding nearly upstages the matcha latte everyone actually came for.
The Steep Index
Drink quality is the headline here, built almost entirely on a matcha latte that earns the short walk from the shrine on its own. The room is small, but it never feels like a compromise, the kind of cozy that makes solo time and slow afternoons feel like the intended use rather than an accident of size. Value and atmosphere both land solidly above average without quite reaching the top tier, the honest result of a young, well run cafe that has not needed to overreach.
- Coffee / Drink Quality: 8.9/10
- Atmosphere: 8.5/10
- Solo-Friendliness: 8.3/10
- Value: 7.8/10
- Staying Power: 8.5/10
- Overall: 8.4/10
Perfect for: working alone, reading, slow weekend
Specialty: matcha
The Space
A few minutes on foot from Nezu Shrine, the room is small enough that you notice every detail, exposed wood, soft light, a counter that puts the whole operation in view. It feels closer to a friend's kitchen than a cafe built for turnover.
The Coffee
The matcha latte is genuinely good, whisked properly and never pushed too sweet, the kind of cup that makes the espresso menu feel like a backup plan. The custard pudding alongside it is the quiet standout, simple and well made in a way that earns a second order.
The custard pudding arrives looking almost too plain to matter, then quietly becomes the thing you remember most about the visit.
The Vibe
Calm in a way that never tips into precious, helped along by staff who are warm and unhurried with every table. It is the kind of small room that rewards sitting still rather than rushing through.
The Verdict
Hanare is a worthwhile detour on any walk through Nezu, especially for the matcha latte and the pudding nobody warns you about. Come for one, stay for the other, and do not expect a lot of seats to do it in.
