The atmosphere score is the one that matters here and it earns every point, driven by one of the more considered small interiors in Nakameguro. The coffee score reflects a flat white that arrived well-textured but without enough espresso presence to make an argument for itself. The Space
A coffee bar inside the VISVIM General Store in Aobadai, with a single table seating four, stucco walls, and Kutani Kosen porcelain that has been crafted in Japan since 1870. Every detail is considered in the way that Hiroki Nakamura considers everything, and the result is one of the more beautiful small rooms in Nakameguro.
The Coffee
The flat white arrives in a porcelain cup that is probably the most elegant thing you will hold in a cafe all week, and the milk is textured correctly. The espresso underneath it is underextracted to make its case. The coffee is house-roasted by VISVIM and the intention is there. The execution does not match the room.
The cup is Kutani Kosen porcelain that has been made in Japan since 1870. That is the most interesting thing about the coffee.
The Vibe
Six seats and a pace that makes you slow down without asking you to. Solo visitors are well served here, not because the coffee demands your attention but because the room does. The staff are unhurried and the atmosphere is entirely without pretension, which takes some doing in this neighbourhood.
The Verdict
Come for the room and the porcelain and the particular stillness that VISVIM's aesthetic produces in a small space. Do not come expecting the coffee to be the story. The aesthetics are second to none. The cup is not.
