Omnipollos Tokyo
Nihonbashi Kabutocho, Chuo · Tokyo · Steep Index 8.2/10

The Swedish brewery Omnipollo's first Japanese outpost, in a converted eel restaurant in Kabutocho, pouring beer you will not find much else in Tokyo.
The Steep Index
The beer and the room carry this equally, which is unusual. What is on tap is genuinely hard to find elsewhere in Tokyo, and the decor is odd in a way that could have been try-hard and instead just works. Solo is easy because the bar takes drinkers one at a time without ceremony, and value holds because the food is more than an afterthought. Staying power is the lowest axis simply because it gets busy and it is not built for settling in.
- Coffee / Drink Quality: 8.6/10
- Atmosphere: 8.6/10
- Solo-Friendliness: 8.2/10
- Value: 8.0/10
- Staying Power: 7.6/10
- Overall: 8.2/10
Perfect for: impressing someone, people watching
The Space
A 70-year-old wooden building in Kabutocho that used to be an eel restaurant, now split between this and a natural wine shop next door. The decor is strange and stylish at once, and the room has an atmosphere you feel rather than notice.
The Pour
Unusual craft beer from Omnipollo alongside a handful of Japanese taps, which is the reason to come and the reason to stay for a second. They pour cocktails and a little wine too, and the gin soda is a better match for the food than it has any right to be.
A Tesio hot dog, the house fried potatoes, and a gin soda. Not what you came for, and exactly what you should order.
The Vibe
Lively without being loud, with staff who are friendly whether you are three deep at the bar or on your own. Easy to arrive alone and end up talking to someone.
The Verdict
Tokyo has no shortage of beer, and very little of this beer. Come for what is on tap, order the hot dog and the potatoes anyway, and do not bring only cash.
