Roasted COFFEE LABORATORY
Jinnan, Shibuya · Tokyo · Steep Index 8.1/10

The BAYCREW'S-backed roastery on Jinnan runs a stylish two-floor room with street-level energy and an original coffee soft cream that outperforms everything else on the menu.
The Steep Index
Coffee tells two stories here. The original coffee soft cream is the reason to visit: rich, cold, and developed with enough intention that it earns a genuine recommendation. The latte does not reach the same standard, and the gap between the two is noticeable enough to affect the score. Atmosphere holds up well for a busy Jinnan address. BAYCREW'S brought a music and art sensibility to the industrial design, and the two-floor layout with a street-level terrace gives the space room to breathe. Solo is comfortable. The seating is ample across both floors and the counter works well for one. Value is strong across the menu. Staying is solid but the Jinnan crowd keeps the room from ever feeling truly quiet — manageable rather than off-putting, but worth knowing before you arrive with a plan to work for three hours.

The Space
Two floors inside 神南フラッグ (Jinnan Flag), with counter and table seating on the first floor and a pet-friendly terrace at street level opening onto Jinnan. The industrial design carries a Shibuya street culture sensibility: music cues, considered surfaces, and a room that knows exactly which neighbourhood it is in. Ample seating by Jinnan standards.
The Coffee
In-house roasting across African to American origins, available in three original blends at light or dark roast. Order the original coffee soft cream first. It is dense, cold, and coffee-forward in a way that stands on its own as the most interesting thing the roastery makes. The latte is adequate but does not carry the same conviction. The soft cream alone justifies the stop.
The coffee soft cream is the thing. Order it before the latte and recalibrate your expectations from there.
The Vibe
Busy, as anything on this stretch of Jinnan tends to be. The music-and-art aesthetic draws a younger Shibuya crowd and the energy of the street comes in alongside them. The room handles it well enough. The terrace is the easiest seat to claim on a quieter weekday morning, when the pace of the block gives you room to actually enjoy what is in the cup.
The Verdict
Roasted Coffee Laboratory is a solid stop on a Jinnan walking loop and the coffee soft cream makes it a memorable one. The latte will not be what you come back for. Come early, order the soft cream, and take a seat on the terrace before the weekend crowd finds it.
