The Coffee Counter Tokyo

Higashikanda, Chiyoda · Tokyo · Steep Index 8.8/10 · Steep Pick

The Coffee Counter Tokyo — Tokyo

A small coffee counter inside a plain food court building in Higashikanda, with a flat white worth the trip and an avocado toast to match.

The Steep Index

Coffee leads clearly, from a balanced flat white to latte art done exceptionally well. Atmosphere and solo-friendliness follow close behind, while value dips for espresso drinks that run a little pricey and staying power for a room with only a few seats.

  • Coffee / Drink Quality: 9.3/10
  • Atmosphere: 8.8/10
  • Solo-Friendliness: 8.8/10
  • Value: 8.2/10
  • Staying Power: 8.7/10
  • Overall: 8.8/10

Perfect for: espresso pilgrimage, brunch

The Space

The counter sits on the ground floor of a nondescript food court building in Higashikanda, easy to walk straight past. Seats are limited and the room is small, but it has a charm of its own.

The Coffee

We both ordered the flat white, and it was balanced and smooth, with latte art that was exceptionally well done. The avocado toast is the food order to make, and the beans come from Allpress.

Nothing about the building suggests coffee this good.

The Vibe

The atmosphere is vibrant and still easy to settle into. The staff speak English and are warm, which makes it an easy first stop for visitors.

The Verdict

The espresso drinks are a bit pricey and the room is small, and neither stops this from being a real espresso pilgrimage stop. Go on a weekday morning for the avocado toast and a flat white, since it is closed Saturday and Sunday.
