TRUNK(LOUNGE)
Jingumae, Shibuya · Tokyo · Steep Index 8.5/10 · Steep Pick

TRUNK Hotel's Cat Street lobby lounge, where the Yuzu Espresso Martini is the signature drink it claims to be and the room gives you every reason to stay through a second.
The Steep Index
Drink quality scores at the top because the Yuzu Espresso Martini earns it. The yuzu does not overwhelm the espresso. It works alongside it, and the result is a cocktail that is better than most bars manage with simpler briefs. Atmosphere matches: this is a hotel lobby lounge that takes its design seriously. Eighty seats, local artists on the walls, a sound system that respects the room, and enough light to feel neither dim nor exposed. Solo is comfortable. The space is generous enough to find a corner, and the wifi and power points make a working afternoon genuinely viable. Value trails because the cocktails are priced for the address and a 7% cover charge applies. Staying power is high. The format invites you to order again.

Perfect for: impressing someone, working alone, slow evening, first date
The Space
The lobby lounge of TRUNK Hotel Cat Street, and it carries the address without effort. Eighty non-smoking seats across sofas, a counter bar, and an open terrace. Enough room to spread out and work or simply sit without feeling watched. Local artists on the walls. TAGUCHI speakers running a sound system that respects the room. A space that takes itself seriously without removing the ease of being there.
The Pour
The Yuzu Espresso Martini is the reason to come and it does not disappoint. The yuzu lifts the espresso's acidity rather than competing with it, and the balance holds through the whole drink. Order it. The Smoky BBQ tex-mex fries arrived with more care than bar food usually gets at this price range. Worth adding to the order. The cocktail program leans on local ingredients throughout, and that discipline shows in the glass.
The yuzu does not drown the espresso. It frames it. That is the difference between a signature drink and a gimmick, and this one knows which side it is on.
The Vibe
Posh without making you feel you need to earn your seat. The staff manage that register well. Spacious and quiet enough for an afternoon with no particular agenda. The crowd is a mix of hotel guests, locals who know the room, and people who found their way in from Cat Street and stayed longer than planned. That last category is easy to join.
The Verdict
Trunk Lounge is the afternoon drink you had not planned on having and then stayed for two. The Yuzu Espresso Martini alone justifies the trip to Jingumae. Order it first. Order the fries alongside. Stay until the light changes.
