The Space
Larger than the Jiyugaoka flagship, with a central communal work table and smaller two-tops along the walls. A terrace extends out front onto a residential Todoroki side street. The 1F Ultimo address is far enough from any major station that the people here came on purpose.
The Coffee
The rotating monthly roaster means the filter menu shifts with some regularity, which is the more rewarding thing to track across visits. The latte is well-balanced and consistent regardless of the current beans. The acai smoothie and lemonade are better than they have any right to be in a specialty coffee shop, and the breakfast plate is the reason to arrive before ten.
They called it a roastery, then built the menu around six other people's roasters. That turns out to be the more interesting approach.
The Vibe
Residential and unhurried in a way that reflects the neighborhood rather than performing it. The no-time-limit policy brings in regulars who treat it like an extension of their apartment, and the room is better for it. Solo visitors settle in without any social overhead.
The Verdict
Todoroki does not appear on most visitors' maps, which is exactly why this works. The rotating roaster setup gives you a reason to come back, and the breakfast plate gives you a reason to come early.
