Brooklyn Roasting Company's Shimokitazawa outpost has a genuinely nice room, high ceilings and a cozy feel, but that is where the positives end. Coffee, food, and service all landed well below what a specialty cafe in a tourist hub should deliver.

Atmosphere is the clear standout, a high-ceilinged, cozy room that is the one thing this location gets right. Staying Power benefits from that same physical comfort. Everything else falls short: Coffee Quality and Value both landed below par, and Solo-Friendliness suffers from staff who read as indifferent rather than engaged. For a specialty cafe in a heavily touristed corner of Shimokitazawa, the coffee and the service are exactly the two things that should not disappoint, and both did here.

The Space
The Shimokitazawa location sits inside MIKAN SHIMOKITA, a genuinely nice space with high ceilings and a cozy, comfortable feel that is the strongest thing about the visit.
The Coffee
The coffee was below par for a specialty cafe, and the food fared no better. For a name built on roasting credibility, this is exactly where it should not fall short.
The room does its job. The people running it did not.
The Vibe
The staff came across as indifferent, with little of the passion a specialty coffee shop should carry. Service was genuinely awful, a real letdown given how busy this tourist-heavy stretch of Shimokitazawa gets.

Brooklyn Roasting Company Shimokitazawa wins on interior alone. The whole point of a specialty cafe is great coffee and great service, and this location delivered neither.
