The Space
The building is a converted warehouse in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, with ceiling heights and floor space that Tokyo cafes rarely get to work with. An in-house roaster sits in the room and from certain seats the river is visible through the glass, which is a combination that takes a moment to take in.
The Coffee
The coffee is serious and sourced with intention, single-origin lots roasted on-site and served with the kind of precision the setup demands. The espresso has complexity without theatrics, and the food matches it: pastries and baked goods that are worth ordering on their own terms, not just as a side to the cup.
The roaster is in the room. The river is through the glass. The coffee connects both.
The Vibe
Japanese hospitality crossed with a New Zealand cafe sensibility makes the room feel approachable in a way that serious specialty spots sometimes fail to be. Families, off-duty chefs, and people who made a specific trip for the coffee all share the space without the room feeling pulled in any one direction.
The Verdict
iki is doing a lot at once: roastery, eatery, riverside setting. It pulls all of it off without any single element feeling underserved. One of the best full-service cafe experiences in Tokyo, and worth the trip to Kiyosumi-Shirakawa on its own.
