nano-coffeeroaster — Tokyo

A tiny Ethiopia-only roaster tucked under the elevated tracks by Asakusabashi Station, with a bean list that runs from classic lots to Karamo and Geisha.

The Steep Index

The bean list is the whole argument, and it is a serious one: an Ethiopia-only roaster with a Karamo lot and a Gesha Village Geisha both on the counter is not something Tokyo has many of. Hand drip is the format, the owner is warm and clearly loves talking through the selection, and the room is small enough that it is really built for one thing.

  • Coffee / Drink Quality: 9.6/10
  • Atmosphere: 8.6/10
  • Solo-Friendliness: 8.4/10
  • Value: 8.6/10
  • Staying Power: 7.8/10
  • Overall: 8.6/10

Perfect for: espresso pilgrimage

The Space

Very small, tucked under the elevated tracks a minute from Asakusabashi Station. This is a roastery first and a place to sit second, if at all.

The Coffee

The bean selection runs from classic Ethiopian lots up to Karamo and Geisha, hand-dripped to order. The Geisha natural, from Gesha Village, was oozing with honey and floral character, exactly what that lot is known for. Beans are sold to take home too.

A Karamo and a Gesha Village Geisha on the same counter, in a room the size of a train arch.

The Vibe

The owner is warm and clearly a serious taster, happy to talk through where each lot comes from and what it should show. If you know your coffee, this is the conversation you came for.

The Verdict

A must for drip coffee lovers and anyone who takes Ethiopian coffee seriously. Go knowing what you want to try, because the list rewards that kind of visit.
