Nineteen Eighty Lounge & Bar — Tokyo

An afternoon tea lounge inside Hyatt Regency Tokyo, built around a Pierre Hermé Paris collaboration and three massive hanging chandeliers, with genuinely excellent value.

The Steep Index

Value leads the card here, and deservedly so, this is a genuinely reasonable price for a Pierre Hermé Paris collaboration and a wide selection of sweet and savory items. Atmosphere follows close behind, the three massive hanging chandeliers make the room itself part of the draw. The tea and drink selection is good and well curated, though it is the value and the room that make the strongest case for a visit.

Specialty: afternoon tea

The Space

Nineteen Eighty Lounge & Bar sits on the second floor of Hyatt Regency Tokyo in Nishishinjuku, anchored by three massive hanging chandeliers that make the room genuinely impressive to sit in. It reads as a proper destination room, not just a hotel lounge passing through.

The Tea

The Pierre Hermé Paris collaboration brings a wide selection of sweet and savory items, and the drink list backs it up well. It is a good spread rather than a single showstopper, but it holds up across the whole afternoon tea set.

Excellent bang for the money, and the three hanging chandeliers alone make the room worth seeing.

The Vibe

Staff are uber-friendly and accommodating, the kind of service that makes a two-hour seating feel effortless. Reasonable pricing for what is on offer makes it easy to recommend without qualification.

The Verdict

A genuinely good value afternoon tea in a room worth the visit on its own, chandeliers included. Bring an appetite and let the Pierre Hermé selection do the rest.
