Coffee Base MEGURO

Coffee Base MEGURO — Tokyo

A stylish, concrete-and-steel specialty cafe on Meguro-dori that opens at 7am, with beans to smell and choose and a solid breakfast menu.

The Steep Index

Atmosphere leads, a stylish, hip room with a counter facing the barista, and the coffee is a close second with a choice of beans. Value and staying power are held back by a tad high prices and a crowded, takeout-leaning room.

  • Coffee / Drink Quality: 8.6/10
  • Atmosphere: 9.0/10
  • Solo-Friendliness: 7.8/10
  • Value: 7.6/10
  • Staying Power: 7.5/10
  • Overall: 8.1/10

Perfect for: brunch

The Space

The interior is stylish and hip, and there are seats at the counter to watch the barista work. Terrace tables are set outside, and dogs are welcome.

The Coffee

You choose the beans for your coffee, and vials of them sit out to smell. I had the charcoal latte, which was pretty good though a tad pricey, and paired it with the creamy pudding.

Open at 7am, and the beans are in vials for you to smell.

The Vibe

The staff are friendly and the mood is relaxed, but it is not a place to chill out. Locals and business people come through on weekdays, and it gets crowded on weekends.

The Verdict

Come early for breakfast, since the open at 7am is the draw, and take your coffee to go. Order the charcoal latte and the pudding.
