The Space
Hatoya Shibuya occupies a small storefront on a quiet stretch of Kamiyamacho, with a handful of bench seats both inside and out front. It is a genuinely tiny space, and it shows the moment a line starts to form.
The Coffee
The No. 1 Blended, Gogumi, sourced from Ujitawara in Kyoto, was lovely and clearly high quality, with a distinct snap pea and chestnut note running through it. The matcha latte already comes with milk built in, so skip the sugar option on offer, it does not need it.

The Vibe
Staff are friendly and the whole operation runs with real care, even with a menu that stretches well beyond a single matcha latte into a full lineup of matcha and hojicha drinks. The catch is popularity, this place is consistently crowded and increasingly on the tourist radar.
The Verdict
Hatoya Shibuya is a small, serious matcha stand doing real justice to its Kyoto sourcing. The wait can be long, but it is worth standing in.
