Hogg Batch Coffee Roastery
Downtown St. Petersburg · St. Petersburg · Steep Index 8.7/10 · Steep Pick

A working roastery on Central Avenue that ages its beans in spirit barrels, pours only pour overs and cold brew, and does it better than anyone else in a city built on syrup lattes.
The Steep Index
Coffee leads by a distance on an 18-hour barrel-aged cold brew, with solo close behind on an owner who will talk beans for as long as you like. Atmosphere and value sit lower because the draw here is the cup and the conversation, not the room.
- Coffee / Drink Quality: 9.4/10
- Atmosphere: 8.3/10
- Solo-Friendliness: 8.7/10
- Value: 8.7/10
- Staying Power: 8.6/10
- Overall: 8.7/10
Perfect for: espresso pilgrimage
The Space
This is a roastery first and a cafe second, and it feels like one. The coffee is made on site, the menu is short, and the people behind the counter know exactly where every bean came from. Hours are limited, so check before you go.
The Coffee
The cold brew was organic Sumatra, aged in a barrel and steeped for 18 hours. It tasted of vanilla and brown sugar, with a rum note that came through clearly without ever turning sweet. It was smooth and a real pleasure to drink, and I liked it enough to buy a bag of the same beans on my way out. The menu is pour overs and cold brew only, which suits me fine.
The exception in a city of syrup-based drinks.
The Vibe
The staff are friendly and obviously care about coffee. I spent a good while talking with one of the co-owners about how the beans are aged and roasted, and it was one of the better conversations I have had in a cafe this year.
The Verdict
St. Petersburg runs on syrup-heavy espresso drinks, and this is the exception. Hogg Batch roasts its own coffee, ages it with real intent, and serves it plainly. Worth planning a visit around the hours.
