Intermezzo Coffee & Cocktails — St. Petersburg

A high-ceilinged Central Avenue cafe that turns into a cocktail bar after dark, with a terrace out front and a room built for settling in with a laptop or a book.

The Steep Index

Atmosphere leads on a tall, bright room and a terrace, with solo close behind on a crowd that clearly works here. Coffee sits lowest because the flat white was fine rather than memorable, and the croissant was the better order.

  • Coffee / Drink Quality: 7.9/10
  • Atmosphere: 9.1/10
  • Solo-Friendliness: 8.9/10
  • Value: 8.0/10
  • Staying Power: 8.3/10
  • Overall: 8.4/10

Perfect for: working alone, reading, impressing someone, first date, people watching, slow evening

The Space

Tall ceilings and plenty of light make the room feel bigger than it is, and there is a terrace out front for good weather. A few stools at the bar take the solo visitors, and the rest of the space is café tables.

The Coffee

The flat white was not bad, a decent cup rather than a reason to cross town. The chocolate croissant came from another bakery and was the real find, moist inside and crisp outside.

A room you can settle into.

The Vibe

The staff were friendly and left me alone to sit. Wifi works, and on my visit half the room had a laptop open, so it suits work as easily as a long read.

The Verdict

Come for the room, order the croissant, and stay a while. It turns into a bar in the evening, and I will review the cocktails on a separate visit.
