Say Coffee House — St. Petersburg

A Vietnamese coffee house on Central Avenue with phin coffee, matcha and a spacious room, though the Biscoff Latte we tried came out too sweet to taste the coffee.

The Steep Index

Atmosphere and staying power lead on a roomy cafe with plenty of seats and a cordial crew. The coffee is the soft spot: a specialty latte so sweet the coffee barely registered, even with the sweetness turned down.

  • Coffee / Drink Quality: 6.0/10
  • Atmosphere: 8.4/10
  • Solo-Friendliness: 8.0/10
  • Value: 7.6/10
  • Staying Power: 8.0/10
  • Overall: 7.6/10

The Space

The inside is spacious, with plenty of seats, so finding a table is not a worry. It is a newer cafe on Central Avenue and the room has space to breathe.

The Coffee

Say is built around Vietnamese coffee and matcha. I ordered the specialty Biscoff Latte, asked for less sweet and 2% milk, and it still came out overly sweet, with the coffee hard to taste. Vietnamese coffee leans sweet by tradition, and a flavoured latte is not a fair test of the phin coffee or the matcha, so this is one drink on one visit.

Plenty of room to sit. The Biscoff Latte buried the coffee.

The Vibe

The staff seemed cordial and the room was easy to settle into. It works as a place to sit for a while rather than a quick grab.

The Verdict

A roomy, welcoming spot for a Vietnamese coffee fix. Ask for it even less sweet than I did, or try the classic phin coffee, since the Biscoff Latte did not let the coffee through.
