The Muddy Root Kava Cafe

Downtown St. Petersburg · St. Petersburg · Steep Index 8.0/10

The Muddy Root Kava Cafe — St. Petersburg

An alcohol-free kava cafe on Central Avenue with strong wifi, a funky room and enough seats to stay all day.

The Steep Index

Funky decor with a good atmosphere, strong wifi, and seats of every kind, from sofas to a canopied patio. The latte was pretty decent, and it works as well for a laptop session as for a book.

  • Coffee / Drink Quality: 7.4/10
  • Atmosphere: 8.5/10
  • Solo-Friendliness: 8.5/10
  • Value: 7.5/10
  • Staying Power: 8.3/10
  • Overall: 8.0/10

Perfect for: working alone, reading, people watching

The Space

Sofas, bar seats and window seats fill the room, and there is canopied seating outside. The decor is funky, and it feels like a community hub.

The Coffee

I ordered the latte and it was pretty decent. The menu is built around kava, so a coffee is not the main event here.

Escape the hustle and stay a while.

The Vibe

A good place to unwind and slow down. I saw a few people working on laptops, and the wifi is strong.

The Verdict

Come to work, read or sit by the window and watch the street. Order the latte if you want coffee, or ask what is good if you are curious about the kava.
